Kate was only 27 when she died, let down and abandoned by the NHS. Her sad and tragic story is below, please read it and support Justice4Kate.

Kate is ill, not well at all, she suffers from mental illness, or to be more specific, a Personality Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder. She has that diagnosis and  is under the care of a psychiatrist.

Remember that.

The psychiatrist screw up and fails to recognise that Kate’s behaviour is a manifestation of the symptoms of her disorder, and instead of dealing with it in a professional manner, he reports her to the police for harassment. There is little evidence, but Kate is convicted, mainly on his evidence and hearsay. She’s mentally ill you know, a loony he says, and because he is a psychiatrist, it’s him that gets believed.

Kate gets worse, she self harms more, she becomes reclusive, sometimes never leaving her house for weeks at a time, she paints her windows to block out the outside world, starts buying prescription drugs on line as her new psychiatrist, (her old one refused to treat her anymore), was not prescribing her the meds she needs and appropriate therapy, (there is appropriate therapy for BPD), was not available, certainly not now, when she needs it most, (waiting lists you know).

Remember that.

In the space of 2 months Kate OD’s, cries out for help, on prescription drugs bought online 6 times, increasing the dose each time, crying out for help louder, with her ending up in ICU each time, yet she is allowed to discharge herself each time as soon as she comes out of her coma, with staff even phoning for a taxi for her to go home in and she is not offered any support or back up, in fact her new MH team discharge her from their care because she was missing appointments, despite her OD’s. She can’t even bring herself to leave the house, and there are no home visits, (she’s a dangerous loony according to her previous psychiatrist, too dangerous for home visits).

Kate also Co-founded an on line MH support forum and was a valued member of the admin team of another, she was someone who rarely posted her own problems, (when she was in distress, she disappear offline for a few days), but offered so much support to others. She was also somebody who I would trust with my young daughter, one of the few people I would trust with her. A dangerous loony my foot; I’m choosy who I trust with my children, but she is dead.

It accounts for 10% of all mental health outpatients and 20% of psychiatric inpatients. 75% of those diagnosed are women and it has close to a 10% mortality rate through suicide and is a much misunderstood disorder.
