Others

Kate was not alone in the way she was treated by the mental health system, it is so common, (in the UK especially), that it could be considered the norm for individuals with personality disorders such as BPD and DID to be treated as Kate was, as an attention seeking, manipulative time waster and dismissed, when in fact they are suffering from a serious illness with a high mortality rate, an illness that with the correct treatment can be helped considerably.

Check out the Surrey Comet – Jane Abandoned and Left on her Own, Surrey Comet, Wednesday March 18th 2008 Woman with Four Personalities Plans Legal Action Against Trust, Surrey Comet, Wednesday September 24th 2008 or Tabi’s Facebook Group, Don’t Let Them Play With Your Mind, for the story of Jane, Tabi, Ickle, Mute and The Insiders, Our Gang as we affectionally call them, with Tabi and Ickle being moderators on Kate’s Place. It’s enough to make you hang your head in shame at being a member of the human race. People should not have to go through all this to get the help and treatment that they desperately need.

With a great deal of effort we have managed to bring Tabi's MP Ed Davey, (Liberal Democrat) and Dr Chris Holman, who works at The Retreat, and is one if the leading Consultant psychiatrists in the UK when it comes to treating complex post traumatic stress together to fight alongside Tabi  in an attempt to persuade StG&T MHT to provide the funding so that Tabi and The Gang can get the help and treatment that They need and deserve and hopefully something will happen soon. Many Thanks Ed and Chris, you are gents.

Stop Press

Things are moving too slowly, Tabi and The Gang are still in a bad place with no positive news in the pipeline so in the hope of moving things along a bit faster we have organised a protest outside St George & Tolworth MHT HQ on Friday November 28th 2008 with us having a protest Facebook group HERE and your attendance being appreciated. If you can't attend, please help us to spread the word in any way that you can.

Hopefully, by a well publicised, (we have considerable media interest), peaceful protest, (with us intending it to be a candlelit Vigil in remembrance of all those who have died and others who are suffering through ineffective NHS MH Services), we can raise the profile of our Gang's situation and that of many others, not just in the Tolworth area but nationwide.

Please support our protest in whatever way you can.

In Loving Memory

Below are tributes to others who have paid the ultimate price, (as Kate did), for the lack of treatment and care available to people who suffer from BPD and DID, that we consider to be manifestations of complex PTS, PTSD II (1*), let them not have died in vain. (Please remember, BPD alone has a 10% mortality rate through suicide).

Stacey Bentley, aged 27.

Stacey was an online friend of Kate's , (and mine), who lived in Australia, with the lack of care and treatment for people suffering from BPD and DID, (PTSD II), not only being a UK thing, with Stacey killing herself 1 month to the day after Kate.

RIP Stace.

Kerrie Wooltorton , aged 26.

Kerry was a friend of Tabi's and her death devastated her and many others, with a report on Kerry's inquest being HERE.

There is far more to Kerry's story than is reported here which is so sad,

RIP Kerry.

If anybody reading this page has friends or loved ones who have been victims of the lack of care and treatment for people suffering from PD's such as BPD or DID who deserve a tribute here please let us know and we will publish one.

RIP everyone who has died due to the lack of care, treatment and understanding by our society of BPD and DID, (PTSD II).

To quote Claire Violet Hanley, from her excellent essay, Psychiatrically Injured, not Inherently Flawed, (© 2008, reproduced here with her permission), full essay HERE.

"Some academics suggest that complex post-traumatic stress disorder type II is a more accurate description of the distress experienced, since the symptoms experienced by severe childhood trauma survivors are reactions to external events. I particularly approve of this stance, especially when the concept of ‘psychiatric injury’ is employed. It must surely be clear that distress following abuse is not an inherent flaw in the survivors brain, but rather a disorder emanating from the external circumstances that subsequently injure a persons emotional wellbeing.

The irony is that PTSD type I is a category that has been legitimised and accepted for some time.  Denise Russell in her seminal work Women, Madness and Medicine points to the centuries old tendency to label women with “disorders” that stem from the intolerability of the situations they find themselves in, and that it is patriarchal psychiatric attitudes that shape such normal reactions into a pathology.  PTSD Type I is most often connected to returning MALE combat veterans, and is an accepted diagnosis.  PTSD Type II is often associated with FEMALE survivors of abuse – yet it is not widely accepted."
