About Justice4Kate

Justice4Kate is an informal group made up of members of the Admin Teams of http://z13.invisionfree.com/Safe_Place, (which Kate Co-founded with Vegan Claire), (Now Kate’s Place), and http://understanding.spreebb.com, (now merged to become Kate’s Place Forum), both of these being on line MH peer support communities that Kate was a member of the Admin Team of, friends of Kate, and members of Kate's family. We are all committed, in Kate’s memory to continuing the tireless work and effort she put in to supporting others through Kate’s Place and campaigning for better treatment of people with mental Illness, especially personality disorders such as BPD and DID, (which many of us consider to be complex forms of PTS), by the NHS and society in general.

We believe that the services, treatment and understanding available to individuals suffering from BPD, DID, (and their carers), in the UK and worldwide, is totally inadequate and unacceptable, especially taking into account how many people are touched by the pain it causes, to individuals suffering from it, and loved ones round them. Remember, Borderline Personality Disorder, BPD, occurs in approximately 2% of the population, accounts for 10% of all mental health outpatients and 20% of psychiatric inpatients with 75% of those diagnosed being women and has close to a 10% mortality rate through suicide, just work out the figures.

BPD kills more people than Diabetes in the UK yet specialist Diabetes nurses are abundant and available through our GP’s surgeries, nurses who are experienced and familiar with Diabetes and the difficulties it causes to people suffering from the disease, disorder or whatever you want to call it, yet where are the specialist PD Nurses in our community, (never mind Psychiatrists and Clinical Psychologists), nurses and professionals with the experience, training and understanding of BPD and DID that would allow them to offer what is needed, required and long since recognised, (See Personality Disorder – No Longer a Diagnosis of Exclusion, published by the NIMH and the NHS back in January 2003), to people suffering from BPD and DID, (and their loved ones), in our society. What percentage of the financial pot available to the NHS is spent on BDP, DID and reducing the suffering it causes, because it would be effective doing so, not just in relieving the suffering of so many but cost wise also.

Should you wish to join us in our campaign fighting for the better treatment of people with PD’s or are in need of understanding and support due to suffering from BPD, DID, PTST, Depression, Bi Polar disorder or Self Harm please feel free to join Kate’s Place, our support forum where you will meet others with similar experiences as yourself and be given understanding and support.

Looking forward to meeting you there.

Claire, Phil, Anna, Tabi, Ickle, Jo, Violet and Sandra.
